May 28
Meet at the church at 7:00 a.m.
The ward has rented five vans, and we will also have Sorenson’s van. In addition, a few trucks will be pulling trailers. Everyone will ride in these vans/trucks unless you need your personal vehicle to return early. We want to limit the number of personal vehicles traveling down.
After leaving the church, we will drive to Jacob Lake, Arizona — approximately a 5 hour and 40 minute drive. We plan to arrive around 1:30 p.m. We will stop there for lunch and a bathroom break.
Everyone planning to hike the Rim to Rim must meet us at Jacob Lake no later than 2:00 p.m.
Those with personal vehicles will leave them in the parking lot at the Chevron gas station at Jacob Lake.
From Jacob Lake, Rim to Rim hikers will get into one of the five vans and drive to the South Rim, where we will set up a light camp. This is about a 3-hour drive.
We will buy dinner in town that night in Tusayan, Arizona, near the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Bring money for dinner.
We will set up camp at a reserved campground that has water and bathrooms.
We’ll go to bed early and wake up at 4:00 a.m.
From Jacob Lake, one van and one truck will drive to the North Rim to set up base camp and prepare for the North Rim adventure.
